Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to ensure that research is a fundamental part of the Hospital’s different divisions, including Orthopedics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nursing, Administration, and Allied Specialty Divisions. We aim to provide direction, logistical support, and training opportunities to Hospital Research Committees in order to produce policies based on scientific and evidenced-based research.

Organizational Structure

The Philippine Orthopedic Center Research Board is composed of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, researchers, and administrative leaders. It is structured to ensure efficient coordination, ethical oversight, and strategic guidance in all research activities conducted within the institution. Each member plays a vital role in promoting a research culture rooted in integrity, innovation, and clinical relevance.

Objectives

  • To ensure that research is given importance and institutionalized in the different Divisions (Orthopedics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nursing, Administration, and Allied Specialty Divisions) of the Hospital.

  • To provide directions, logistical support, and training opportunities to the different Hospital Research Committees.

  • To produce policies based on scientific and evidenced-based research that will address problems and concerns in Hospital administration.

  • To produce papers that will be presented and published in local, regional, and international stages in the fields of Orthopedics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nursing, Hospital Administration, and other Allied Specialties.

  • To contribute to the Hospital’s vision to be a “Center of Excellence” not only in Service and Training, but also in Research.

Aims of the Organizational Structure

  • To establish clear roles and responsibilities for effective research governance.

  • To ensure the ethical and scientific quality of all research initiatives.

  • To promote collaboration among clinical departments, academic partners, and regulatory bodies.

  • To facilitate the timely review, approval, and monitoring of research proposals.

  • To support the continuous professional development of staff involved in research.

Activities

Priority Activities (immediate & long-term)

  1. Rejuvenate the Institutional Research Review Board (IRRB)

    • Accreditation of the Institutional Research Review Board (Ethics)

      • Fulfill documentary, physical, and technical requirements

      • Manpower qualifications met

      • Once accredited, schedule a regular bi/monthly IRB meeting​

  2. Support for Researchers

    • Access to peer-reviewed local and international journals (online or printed)

    • Access to technical and logistical assistance

      • Statistician/Biostatisticians

      • Epidemiologists

      • Research assistants

    •  Facilitate online access to Good Clinical Practice certification (asynchronous).

    •  Financial subsidy for transportation and accommodation for local and international poster & podium research presentations​

  3. Support for the Research Committees

    • Promote and incentivize high-quality research studies, like clinical pathways, treatment outcomes, and hospital policy-oriented papers

    • Collaborate with other local and international research bodies to improve research processes and gain opportunities for research training and development

    • Conduct yearly hospital-wide research paper contest among the winners of the
      different Division research contests (top three)

  4. Reactivation of the POC Proceedings

    • Selection of the editorial board

    • Possibly peer-reviewed

    • initial once a year release​
